New Sound Card?

post #1 of 21
Thread Starter
I have an X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card and I love it. The only down to it is that it doesn't have Optical-In. I've been looking for a good sound card with Optical and I found this one.

Does anyone own this card and how does it preform. I need optical for my Xbox 360.

I think I'd get the AuzenTech Auzen X-Fi Prelude at that price. Maybe somebody that knows more can tell you about that card.

Edit: damn beat me to it lol

Yeah, if you are going to spend that much on a sound card just get the Prelude. Also, you could save a lot of money and get the XFI I/O Drive. I have never used that drive myself though, not sure of its quality etc. Maybe someone here can enlighten us.

I have the claro's little brother the striker.. Optical and Coaxial sound quality is about the same as normal analog but it is a great feature to have. The only bad side it only supports EAX 2.0 . Unlike creative I think its at 5.0 now.. (creative licensed EAX)

For that price First think of a Prelude....Secondly think of a Xonar!
X-Fi I/O drive degrades Audio quality!

EDIT=Get a Plantronics Switcher

Yeah, I've heard bad things about the I/O drive. You've got this awesome soundcard only to have the quality beaten to a pulp by a bad interface. If your going to spend 175$ on a sound card, or are at least comfortable with said purchase, just pony up and grab a Prelude. You will not be disappointed.

I was looking at those cards and I don't understand how does an optical cable insert into that kind of port? It looks like a coaxial.

Take a closer look. The shape of the plug fits into the port in a way like an RCA does, except it doesn't look like there's a sort of shroud to fit over the port when it gets plugged in.

I'm basing this based on what it looks like, and it doesn't look anything like a coaxial to me. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't look like one to you. I'm just trying to express to you that I can't see it. When I click on the larger image of the pic, I can see how it plugs in. Maybe I am a nerd after all.
