Temperature question on 680i mobo...

Thread Starter
Ok...i have a concern about one of the temps of my mobo, the MCP (southbridge, correct?) idles at 55C and i've seen it as high as 68C when under a load in games. Is this thing supposed to be this hot? Cause it used to be about 10C higher before i replaced the stock thermal compound on the chipset with AS5. So why is the MCP so hot?

What's your voltage set to on it? I have mine set to Auto. It stays at 1.50V with a temp of 41°C/104°F (but as you can see, I'm currently caseless). However, we do have different cpu's and memory. And you probably have more experience with this stuff than I do. I just began overclocking like a few days ago, and I haven't done very much work.

Check out the nForce 680i SLI Overclocking Guide (pdf). The mobo they used to write the guide was the same mobo you and I have.

They mention voltages, but they say to only adjust CPU, FSB, Memory, and the SPP, but nothing else.

Maximum Recommended Voltages:
CPU Core: 1.58750v
CPU FSB: 1.5V
Memory: 2.3v
SPP: 1.50v

Just in case, and you'll learn this from the Guide, but:

SPP: System Platform Processor (North Bridge)
MCP: Media and Communication Processor (South Bridge)

That's all I can do, so this serves more as a bump for others to see it.

Those temps are fine for a 680i (hot chipset)
