[BBC] Manhunt 2 wins battle for release

Thread Starter
The ban on controversial video game Manhunt 2 in the UK has been lifted and the game will now go on sale.

The Video Appeals Committee upheld an earlier decision that the game could be sold, following a nine-month battle between makers Rockstar and UK censors.

The British Board of Film Classification had taken the fight to ban the game to the High Court, saying the game "went too far".

An edited version of the title will be released with an 18 certificate.

The game was first banned in June 2007 and an edited version of the game was later rejected by the BBFC.

David Cooke, director of the BBFC said: "As I have said previously, we never take rejection decisions lightly, and they always involve a complex balance of considerations.

Yeah lol

Well I do think that Manhunt in general is very violent so the BBFC's concern is actually completely Valid.

Yes valid point, but a total ban of sales? That's ridiculous! Parents should be able to decide what their children can or cannot play, the government shouldn't have to do that for them! If so then what a joke of a society tbh.

Not really. Consider this. Did you always do everything your parents said ?. Did you always play all video games at home ?

By a complete ban it removes all these factors and is done to protect the majority of people in a society. I am not agreeing or dis-agreeing but I am stating why bans were put into place and why.

That's true but doing a total ban of sales is actually going to increase piracy... I mean if someone wants to actually buy the game then they're only option is piracy! I mean like you said, if the kid wants to play the game then he will end up doing so, but a total ban of sales means that the kid will have to do this illegaly, rather then legaly.

Piracy is just a consequence in this case. Its not really avoidable. If people choose to obtain it illegaly then that is their choice...and risk.

The BBFC is not concerned about piracy but is concerned for the welfare of its society.

Oh please, all those wuss's with their heads up their butt's should learn that there are a million and one factors to make people of all ages violent.
its been proven that every human being is capable of murder, so what? would anyone say that we should have our hands cut off so there wont be any danger?
basically, im happy they won this "battle", maybe make people move on to the next "big threat to our children"
