So many idiots in this thread just want to bash a product because they can't afford it. BOSE is not like Alienware, they are more like Ferrari. You pay for the looks. Sure a WRX Turbocharged off it's nut will go faster, but you want the prestige. Same deal here. Fact remains that Bose speakers just look awesome and very subtle at the same time. My family has a lifestyle 28 system and let me tell you they fill the room like anything.

They may not be the best but that's not why they exist. They aren't aimed at angst college students on an overclocking forum that want the best at the lowest cost. They are for older people that don't give a damn about the price and just want something that sounds good and looks great. Also, for classical music, Bose speakers are unbeatable.

Edit: Also stop with the stupid large words. It makes me just skip your post and move onwards to the next instead of adding any emphatic effect you desired.

this thread is about the older 501 or 301 speakers, why you still trying to explain what the new Bose speakers are for!

WOW...delusional much? Please give me your DJ contact info so I can NOT ever contract you for a private party.

As anyone who knows anything have already told you, Bose is not worth getting if you are looking for a great audio quality at a fair price. There are many brands out there that provide much better audio quality for at times, half the price. Klipsch are among one of the brands that first comes to mind when discussing audio quality, but the shoddy BASH amp on their ProMedia line for computer speakers have somewhat turned me off. Another great company for speakers are Swans. I personally use the JBL SCS Sats (managed to snag the 5 piece set for $150 brand new) with a Velodyne VX-10 with a Yamaha receiver. The quality sounds absolutely stunning for a small apartment, but may not completely fill up a big room.

All of that said, don't get me wrong...Bose does have great sound, but there are better alternatives out there for people who do not have loads of cash to throw around and actually know what they want and what they can get. Consider a home entertainment or sound system setup like water cooling. Sure you can purchase a more expensive pre-assembled it, but that almost always costs a lot more and performs worse.

To answer your original question - yes. Most Bose speakers predating the late 80's are of good quality and do a decent job of reproducing music. I would compare their products of that generation to Advent, Sansui, Klipsch, Utah, or any of the other more mid-fi speaker companies of the day.

BOSE is prestige? Which audiophile universe are you from? Prestige means a brand that everyone wishes they could have. Even if I had the money, I would not want Bose. Comparing Bose to a Ferrari is so retarded that I am forced to laugh. The best comparison I can make is probably a Skyline; most people know it, it was indeed a great sports car but also outrageously overpriced, and it does not carry a breath of prestige. Ferrari to me is like Klipsch, Adam Professional Audio, and Mark Levinson. Actually Adam maybe considered Rolls Royce, since at the price of an Adam, you can purchase a decent car.

Quite simply put, yes they are. Maybe not to audiophiles, but to the general public, they are considered prestige speakers.

I don't understand why you think Bose isn't like Alienware. They're both readily within reach of most people, and both don't really give you much prestige. It's more like a "Oh, that's cool." kind of thing, not an OMG***BBQ UR RICH kind of effect that a Ferrari would impart. Also, you're paying for the looks and brand name of Bose just as much as Alienware.

When someone has a Ferrari, you just know they're ****ing rich. When someone has Bose speakers, you just know they're at least middle class. Like Alienware.

Also, we're not angsty college students looking for the best for the least. We're people who do our research before we buy. Bose aims their products at people who do *no* research before they buy. Seriously, googling "Bose Review" gives the first result as "Why Bose Sucks Review Resources."

Bose is best at classical? ...

Another thing, we're not using large words. All the words I've seen are standard for describing audio equipment. That you don't understand them shows your experience in this type of thing, and that you'd skip over posts with such terms shows you're not willing to listen to why Bose sucks when argued on a technical level.

From aforementioned "Why Bose Sucks Review Resources":
"Bose mystique feeds off of its well-targeted audience: the ignorant, ill-informed, mass-market consumers who search for simplified hifi audio solutions in "all-in-one" chain stores.. Audio newbies often throw out the "But I heard that Bose is good!" defense, to which I respond "From who?" Was it a sound engineer, electrical engineer, materials scientist, studio engineer, sound producer, recording professional, musician, Mark Levinson? Ray Dolby? George Lucas? Anyone credible? Or was it your neighbor with the GoldStar walkman, Teac boom box, Funai mini-system, and Sylvania receiver? Perhaps the ubiquitous Bose Ads that they find in completely irrelevant magazines such as Popular Science, Times, Playboy, GQ, People, Astronomy, etc, had some sort of subliminal effect against the better of their judgment?"

Look at B&W, Klipsch, or a whole long list of real high end speakers that people that actually do their research buy.

Bose stuff isn't bad. It's just not good for the price, and their marketing department likes to hail them as the best sounding thing humanity has ever created, when really they're just ok.

Their older stuff was pretty good, though, and they came up with some good designs and ideas. However, they've turned into a giant marketing department that happens to sell speakers and headphones.
