5000+ Max Voltage?

Thread Starter
I have a 5000+ black edition 65nm and I was reading today that I shouldn't have the voltage at 1.6 because of some electron migration or something.

I'm just wondering what is the max voltage I can be safe with? According to AMD it's 1.375...

Most people don't go over 1.500v on air cooling, some won't even go that high. I think 1.450-1.500v should be fine, 1.600 is asking for trouble and AMD says 1.375 to protect themselves from mass RMA's and lawsuits.

if my temps are below 60*C on air then what would 1.6v matter if i had watercooling?

this is for every day use we are talking about.

edit:: my vcore is actually 1.55. will this be too much and cause electron migration?

Dubbed, high voltage over time does cause electromigration but by the time you notice it you'll be building your second rig. The main problem with using such a high voltage is the heat. That is why you'll see so many users with WC setups and higher voltages. Use your own judgment and see how the temps go. Depending on room ambient and case airflow, I would keep the vcore at or below 1.45 (on air)...but that's just me

Hope this helps

i'd trust cpu-z: vdroop is pretty common, but i've never seen increased vcore like that

Dubbed, just to double check make sure cool'n'quiet is disabled. Also make sure that any type of "thermal throttling" is also disabled via BIOS. I would trust the BIOS over software.

Good luck

I would not push that chip above 1.45 without H2O. Electromigration is a *****.
