E4500 Overclockers come help

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
well i just started to overclock a E4500 and it seems like i cant get it to be stable at 3.0....runing at 2.8 right now....

FSB at 1020 linked with ram the ram im useing are HZ's and they are crazy overclockers i ran them at 1066 no problem so im guessing its not the ram thats not stable its the cpu

CPU muti at 11x
Volt at 1.320v

at 2.8 im loading at 46C

what i wanna know is...how far have you gotten with your E4500 and under what voltage

I can't say for sure with 4500's, but with that family of cpu's there are usually a few things you can try..

Unlink your ram or set it at a 1:1 ratio or 2x multiplier (depends on mobo) You can oc your RAM after you find you cpu's stable oc..

Your cpu voltage can go as high as 1.5v, however with higher vcore come higher temps.. Most run around 1.4vcore when they oc..

Some have good luck dropping down 1 cpu multi.. They can get a higher fsb and still run a low vcore.. Me for example with my 4300, I can run 400fsbx8 @ 1.28vcore, but at 400fsbx9 i need 1.48 to run stable..

Also make sure your PCI-E freq. is locked at 100Mhz..

Hope that helps a little.. Happy OC'ing..

Stock volts for E4500 is 1.2000v, at least every E4500 I seen had a VID of that. Zero Iam going to assume the sig rig is your sigged system just with the E4500 instead of the quad core. First off drop your vcore, we all know every chip is different but I can get 3Ghz stable at stock 1.2000v and if you can't even get 2.9Ghz with over 1.3v theres for sure a problem.

Lets start a little higher than stock for now, drop the vcore to 1.250v and adjust your bios to the following settings, make sure you do NOT use auto setting. I am not a total professional with nVidia boards but these are settings I do know that should be set at for now.

CPU vcore: 1.250v
NB Volts: Lowest setting
SB Volts: Lowest setting
FSB Volts (or FSB Term): Lowest setting
C1E (or Enhanced Halt State): Disabled
PECI (if its listed): Enabled
TM (or Thermal Monitor 1 and/or 2): Enabled
EIST (or Intel Speedstep): Disabled
Vcore loadline control or Voltage Damper (if its listed): Enabled
Performance Enchance (if listed or something similar): Disabled
CPU Multi: 11x
FSB: 273
RAM Ratio or Multi: 1:1
RAM Volts: Stock volts for your RAM, most likely 2.1v or 2.2v

Since we are dealing with low FSB the NB/SB can run with stock volts for now. Make sure your RAM is running at stock timings, input the settings above and if it posts that will get you 3Ghz. If that is stable increase FSB slowly from there, keep the multi at 11x for now. I see a trend of E4500 users and nVidia boards having trouble overclocking and breaking the 3Ghz barrier for some reason, again assuming your rig is the sigged one with the quad swapped out.

A list of what volts my E4500 needs at what speeds and load temps that may be of intrest to you.

***These temps are with the IHS fully lapped and AS5 between the IHS and die with the IHS remounted, your temps without "modding" the IHS will most likely limit you to 3.4Ghz and it will be HOT***

Speed//Vcore//Load Temp

3Ghz = 1.2000v = Load 40c
3.2Ghz = 1.264v = Load 49c
3.33Ghz = 1.396v = Load 54c
3.4Ghz = 1.408v = Load 61c
3.45Ghz = 1.428v = Load 65c (not much testing done at 3.45Ghz)
3.5Ghz = 1.472v = Load 75c
