Hey all. I am going to rebuild my comp and I need some imput.

People have suggested to me many combinations of different hardware and it all is too expensive for me. I composed a grouping that makes sense to me. All I am asking is for your input to see whether it could work, how well would it work compared to my current system, and whether I could keep this setup for a long time without having to upgrade again.

i would personally go with the 5000 black edition (runs cooler and can get almost to the speed a 6400 black can). i hope you plan on installing a 64bit os, because 4gb of ram on a 32bit OS causes issues (memory limitations). also if you didnt know, the black editions do not come with a HSF

i agree with the above post... 2gb of OCZ or g.skill ram will be fine. Are you planning on overclocking this rig? If so i suggest some pc2-6400 ram instead of the pc2-5300. Black edition 5000+, that mobo, and 2gb of ram you would be set. You can pick up a good h/s fan at newegg also. I've got a Zalman 7700 i think. Cools my 3800+ x2 nicely

Wow ok I guess I really didn't know what I was doing.

What do you guys think would be the best setup?

I want a system that can run the better games out there... like crysis or something but at a lower price range (like 500 or so). I also want it to be able to run XP and Vista (I don't want vista until the service pack comes out).

I also probably won't be doing any overclocking either.

Crysis on a $500 budget is pretty tricky; you would be best going with Intel.

I have always been a supporter of AMD... The ONLY reason I considered Intel is ONLY because of better gaming. If I can, I will always stay with AMD.

Ok... how does that 9600GT compare with the 8800GTS's? The 9600 is newer but is less expansive than the 8800's. If price was no object... what would I be better of getting?

If I do get that AMD setup... what kind of games would it be able to run and would I be able to keep the setup for a while without having to upgrade?

Lildrummer, in my opinion both setups will allow you to play any game...it just depends on how much eye candy you want to have on

Below is something I put together for under $500 and it's an Intel setup:

E2180 - $79.99
GA-P35-DS3L - $89.99
G.Skill DDR2 800 - $44.99
EVGA 8800GT - $229.99

I put in zip code 80201 for Denver, CO and it came out to be $452.11. Not to shabby if you ask me.

If you have more money to spare with your budget then I would think about also purchasing a quality built power supply. What brand/model is your 600w?

Good luck with your purchase
