Let's overclock my system together - Page 7

Actually, yeah. I'm gonna go back to 3.6GHz again just to run Orthos to see how long it lasts.

By the way, why would I get the BSOD when installing something like Adobe Reader, but not crash for a half an hour test of Orthos? This question was worded like this because I had it at 3.0GHz earlier today, and it passed a half an hour Orthos blend test. So, I decided to install Tron 2.0. Then it gave me the BSOD (either that, or it was only the static screen. I just assumed it was the BSOD...)

You would get a BSOD because something is not stable. Orthos runs a ton of codes, when you error or crash out - that particular code hits an error (The installation probably used the same/ similar code?)

When installing things, go back to your last stable settings always - never install anything on an unstable overclock - it never goes well!

As we all said man - baby steps! you will eventaully get to your max!

Heres a quick thing you might want to try. Figure out your highest 100% stable OC so far! now Find out what is the lowest multiplier you can put on your CPU. Now using that lowest multiplier, change your FSB such that you now have the same CPU speed (or less) with that lowest multiplier...... Start stresstesting! if it fails - more NB and FSB Voltage !!! if it passes - RAISE YOUR MULTIPLER ONE STEP!....test, and repeat! Once you get back to 10x - start over by raising FSB at lowest Multi to match the last 10x multi speeds.....

By the way, may I steal your style of replying? That was brilliant with the number associations like that. I like how it saved space in the thread too.
Not necesarily! I upped my SB voltage because I got some crazy errors after adding a 6th hard drive to my setup. It was set to a really low 1.1 volts so I upped it to 1.3 and it stopped erroring?

And go ahead and use the stye of replying! I find it really efficiant !

Yeah, well said bro. Thank you. I"m gonna have to save that in wordpad or something. I don't really feel ready for it yet, but I know there'll come a time very soon when I'll say "yeah, now's the time".

Btw, nice avatar, freeroller!

Thanks

And I hope you get things worked out! I hated having issues with my first overclock!

EDIT: As your sig quote mentions.. your new PC is like a FERRARI! Just dont spin the tires too hard or you wont get anywhere But dont be caught driving that thing like a grandma!

LOL@like a grandma

I actually understood that advice. Thank you, bro! It's funny - I remember when I first decided upon the e2180, I was thinking that I'd be running at 2.8GHz. And here I am, 100% stable at 2.8GHz at VID.

Don't get me wrong, I wanna try for more, but I don't think it can handle it. I don't know enough yet about overclocking to know why, but I know that at least for now, I can't go higher.

Thats perfectly fine!

Wait around OCN, read up, and just keep posting and reading

This is how I learned to achive 4.5 GHZ OC on AIR..... If I hadnt read up on OCN I probably would have fried my chip loooong ago!

Your stable now - just leave the BIOS alone and enjoy having a massive increase in performance lol

Congrats
