Jeeze ya sounds like you do got a coxucker isp.
Do explain 'Different DNS server'?

I can switch DNS servers but I lose connection breifly, then uTorrent regains it's connection/ recognizes internet using the new DNS because the older DNS is no longer existant

Mind you Im behind a a router because we have 3 (soon 4) computers in this house!

By default without any change, your router picks up the default dns server "in your case ,cox dns", in the router you are able to change dns servers, say like for example
OPENDNS server ip.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

these should over ride your isp dns server.

but if you goto change dns server, keep in mind to write down your default dns server ip so if anything happens you may revert to your default dns.

belowis a screenshot of where i would enter the 2 dns server ip's which are opendns, you may use other dns servers aswell but be careful.

dynamic ip through DHCP is different then the DNS

the DHCP is only for getting you your ip address.
the dns server is a domain name server. computers don't understand www.overclock.net instead they need to see it's ip address of 66.29.75.34. that's is the job of the DNS to convert the text address to it's IP address.

hmm, i am using dhcp and was able to use a different dns server "opendns"
yup you should have no problem using for example "opendns".

but if your connection is shutting down while opening utorrent, maybe your router needs some configuration? to except more ip's and more ports. routers may get bogged and shutdown if not configed correctly ands thats where to many ips are trying to connect at once meaning gotta maybe config the router.

DHCP can be used to set a DNS server; it is an option, so it's not required.

And I don't think using a different DNS will make any difference for the ISP's ability to notice what your doing, since they are most likely just sniffing packets. I think uTorrent has an option to enable encryption; this might (I'm not saying it will, but it might) stop your ISP from being able to read the packets you send over the internet and thus might not limit your bandwith/shut you down or w/e they do these days when you use BT.

So I got one of these things this morning. Easy answer. I'm paying a small fee now per month for unlimited downloading of the same thing from an SSL news server.

Total Privacy, and downloading at full bandwidth of my connection!

Please excuse me while I piss on the government.
