yea but vista was almost basically built from the ground up. hence why lots of sound cards didn't work with vista right out of the box. They rebuilt the audio stacks and more in vista. so you can't really say its XP at it foundations. you could say a part of xp is in there, but it isn't like xp in many different ways.

Vista was not built from the ground up, it is based off of Server 2003. Which all of them are based off of NT.

I don't know why someone would even bother to think that Microsoft would release code for their top product.
