[Firing Squad]9800GX2 vs 8800GTS SLI Review - Page 2

You might want to read the hardocp review where they factored in the ATI 3870x2.

Its not pretty for ATI (other than price)

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA==

9800 GX2 vs. ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2

The ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 is around $200 cheaper than the GeForce 9800 GX2 and its performance is drastically slower. In Crysis we had to play with all the in-game settings at “Medium” which reduced the gameplay experience. The Radeon HD 3870 X2 was drastically slower in Jericho supplying a tremendous difference in the gameplay experience in this shader intensive game.

For the same price as one Radeon HD 3870 X2 we once again come back to GeForce 8800 GT SLI which can be slightly less expensive. But again, you have to have an SLI capable motherboard. When you look at their performance in this evaluation compared to the ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 the GeForce 8800 GT SLI really looks like the value winner in this evaluation

hmm, so you can get 2 8800GTS's which outperform the GX2 for $100 less....

Lets just hope some new drivers clear this up

By the time that you have the money to buy another 9800GX2 for quad sli Nvidia will have already of released a card that beats two 9800GX2's in quad sli(G200). The fps improvement is so small when going from 2 cards in sli up to 4 anyways so buying two 9800GX2's would be a waste of money IMHO. You would also need a crazy PSU to run two 9800GX2's in sli. Overall I would have to say that the 9800GX2 is fail.

The heat from an additional card. The space needed to water cool 2 card's.Makes this not an easy thing as it would seem.

The preformance you get from an additional card scales downward in games drasticly.Unless you have multiple account's of say WoW or Everquest.Youed be better served to update and having just one card.

What made the 7950GX2 so desirabile was it was cheaper to buy one then 2 7900's in SLI.So far the 9850GX2 is more.

Be very afraid that there arnt any bench's on 2x9850GX2's.If it was killer nvidia would use it to bury 2x 3870X2's.NDA is over.If it was good theyed be singing it.

Well if you don't have an SLI mobo or are into saving space (GX2 takes up 2 slots, 8800 GTS SLI takes 4) the 9800GX2 might be a better choice.

They haven't even released proper drivers for Quad-SLI yet which is probably why there haven't been any reviews of it yet.
They'll probly stop making 8series drivers , so imo 9800gx2>gts sli. the hardocp peopole overclocked it to 740mhz thats similar to what we've seen the gts do, but who knows how hot that thing is.

Its exactly the same thing as sli GTS , but a lil more hot! (sexy hot!) with quad sli support and on a single pci slot. I don't see how this is fail if the price difference is realy low.

Actually $200 less....

The GX2 is running for around $600 right now and I've seen the GT for around $200 each

You can't fault a video card because the PSU can't hack it, and I sure haven't seen any benches for quad-sli lately so I dont know how you know that going from 2 to 4 is going to be worthless. I am not saying it will succeed, but how about just waiting until drivers come out.

Don't forget the 8.3 drivers for crossfirex just came out, even though the 3870x2 has been out for awhile now. Oh and from the few guys that ran benches using two 3870 x2's, there was no improvement in fps whatsoever, at least for crysis. But thats just a driver issue as well.

HAHAHAHA, funny how everyone calls the 9800 GX2 "garbage" now, when just 3 or 4 weeks ago everyone suggested for people to "wait for the new 9800 to come out it's gonna be the bomb yo!"
