New Intel Build (Screenshot of Cart Added and Loads of Questions)

Thread Starter
Hello Everyone.

I am planning on building a new Intel gaming rig. with a budget of around $1500 and I need some recommendations on what to buy.

I need the following things.

1. Processor (Currently looking at the 45nm)
2. Motherboard (Not sure)
3. PSU (Looking at the Ultra X-Connect or any other PSU with Flex Force Cables)
4. RAM (4GB Currently looking at the Crucial Ballistix Tracers.)
5. Graphics Card (Not really sure)
6. Case (I love the Silverstone TJ07 Black)

I am not sure about the cooling yet. I may go with water cooling if it fits in my budget. I actually don know much about water cooling. It depends on how much it will cost to maintain and run but I really dont mind giving it a try.

The rig will be on 24x7 and will be mainly used for Folding/ Programming/Developing and Gaming.

I am planning on overclocking the rig - This is where I was having a lot of trouble last time over because my motherboard was the bottleneck.

I am not going to be ready to order stuff for an other month so I can surely look at products that will be released in the future.

Thanks

EDIT: Is DDR3 worth considering ? or is it better to get a good ddr2 and overclock it to ddr3 speeds?

EDIT: Oh I forgot. For the harddrives I already have a 150GB Raptor and a 160GBWD @7200RPM.
The DVD-RAM drive is an LG

First, DDR3 isn't worth. Get good quality DDR2 ram.

E8400/E8500
DFI LP LT X38
Sliverstone DA850 (for future upgrade)
2X2GB GSKill kit or new Crucial 2X2GB kit
9800GX2. It will be great to wait to see some real benchmarks in next few weeks or so to see how these new GPU work under updated drivers.

What kind of overclocks can I expect for the E8400 with the DFi board ?. I looked at reviews the DFI looks to be a solid overclocker.

Will the Crucial Ballistix Tracers be a good option ?? I really like the LEDs on the tracers

Not a promise but you are looking for somewhere around 4G with typical air cooling. Tracers is the same as the standard ballistix with LEDs.

45nm thread.

Finally I have thought of a configuration. I have attached a screenshot of the cart at newegg.
I am not going to order any products yet. Not for a month.

I have a couple of more questions --

1. Is it true that a 2x2GB config is easier to overclock than a 4x1GB config?

2. I am surely hoping for the G0 stepping with the Q6600 but is there a way to confirm for sure?

3. Are 2 8800 GTX cards in SLI an overkill or should I just stick to 2 8800GTS G92 in SLI ?

4. Should I consider the 9800 GX2 ?. I am sure I dont want to be doing a Quad GPU setup , so it its the 9800 GX2 it will be the only GPU I will have.

Thanks

Oh a couple of more questions:

1. I just have one raptor. Will it be the performance bottleneck or should I be looking at a Raid 0 Configuration. Cause it will be a PITA to have such an awesome setup and your harddrive as the bottleneck.

2. How much overclock can I expect with this setup?

I am going to be water cooling this setup. But I will be bothering you guys a little later with water cooling questions.

As a cost cut, I'm going to recommend against the DuOrb. The new stock cooler is fine. I run it at 41% and it keeps my temps well within normal parameters in UT3 and Crysis/
