How many processes do you have running?

Either you have some serious OS/driver corruption or a faulty GPU.

550W should be enough, but amps are also important.

I would try reformating if you are up for it... Make sure you install the latest drivers first. Don't let windows update install outdated ones.

If it still happens after a reformat then we know its hardware.

If it was your PSU usually the drivers will say "Power supply cannot supply enough power, card is declocked" etc etc.

Very weird. The only thing that should be changing your PCI-E link width is you through your BIOS so with that said it sounds like your BIOS may be corrupted. You could try flashing it with a newer version or with the same version if possible. If it still continues to do this you may want to contact Asus tech support to see what they say. It could even be the BIOS chip and if that's the case you're looking at an RMA.

Oddly enough there is one entry on another forum saying that they changed the PCI bus frequency from 100 to 101 and it fixed the problem but I don't see how that could possibly be. Stranger things have happened.

Oh, for future reference when you want to update your driver you should uninstall your display driver from your control panel, boot into safe mode, run Driver Cleaner Pro, reboot into normal mode, install the new driver, reboot again and you should have no problems. This will ensure that all traces of the driver are removed and your card should work properly.
