Xeon E3110 - $179.99 (OEM)!! - Page 3

I'm seeing socket 775 rather than 771. Will this work with non-server motherboards I presume? Will this work with normal C2D boards?

Yeah this a the same exact chip as an E8400 just binned to run in Server environments, it will work in non-server mobos, C2D boards should work as long as they support the new 45nm C2D's.

Thats cool and a steal. Hopefully these will be more in stock unlike the E8400 which have been out of stock for over a month.

Just ordered one today, hopefully it will be fun to play with. Pretty good deal think it was 191 after shipping. Still the cheapest around.

Fantastic Deal, Seriously considering pulling the trigger...

Q: Do the 45nm Xeons seem to be suffering the same amount of T-sensor problems as the E8400s?

Any tankguy's customers with non-functional T-sensors RMA to intel?

My understanding is immature BIOS/temp software support gives wacky readings. The chips themselves are fine. It may run a bit warmer than older chips, but it's also designed to handle it.

Regarding the temp sensors, check out RealTemp (it records peak temps and does lots of other cool things. This link also includes information about the designer testing and calibrating it with his E8400 and a separate thermal probe.

That said, most seem to feel that as long as you've got your HSF mounted correctly, and you don't go above 1.365 vCore that temperatures shouldn't be an issue. These chips seem much better able to handle temperature than they can voltage, so that's the point to really scrutinize.
