AMD Athlon X2 4600+ (Manchester) Overclocking - Page 4

Nah dude, I very highly doubt your Manchester will handle 2.7GHz. I mean you can give it a try if you want.....but Manchester's notoriously crap out around 2.60GHz. And AMD states that thermal spec is 65*C for the CPU. You're looking at core temps which are slightly higher than the CPU temp. I'd say keep your warmer core below 65*C. I promise it's 100% safe.

Hello,

I also have a 4600 Manchester 939, and I will try to help you out. When I first came to this site, I made a very similar post to yours, in fact, my first impression was that someone bumped my old post Indeed. Anyway, I haven't read the entire thread, I figured I'd just jump in.

There's a ton of resources for s939, the repository of information is kept in the The Socket 939 Appreciation Club. Also, I have the same processor as you, and I hope my thread will be of help. Found here: Amd 4600+ 939.

When I finally got overclocking down and learned exactly how to do it, I found that I couldn't get my 4600 past 2749, even at maximum voltage (1.53v). I ran into many problems, but I finally got it stable for 9 hours at 2749. I pushed it higher, it was game stable, but I think I damaged it because now it skips an absurd amount. Be very careful with the manchester, go up extremely slowly and make sure to stress test constantly. When I began overclocking I would stress it for ~30 minutes and call it good, and push it higher. Sadly for me, I didn't learn anything from that until I started looking at the variables of a stable overclock. Ie, RAM, HTT, HT Voltage, RAM voltage etc, which I knew nothing about.

If you have any questions about my experience feel free to pm me or ask in this thread.

Well, I had to back it down to 220 since it did not pass @224 fsb, However, So I'll keep it at 220 and see if stability is good. However, The Temps with the case open is

CPU-59C
CPU/Core#1-62C
CPU/Core#2-67C

Is normal ?
It passed the 12K mark in Orthos!!

A standard Orthos or Prime95 testing time is usually 9+ hours, so I wouldn't trust it completely at 1 hour. However, that doesn't mean it isn't stable. Two things, 1) Looks like you definitely need water cooling. Secondly, what are the ambient temperatures of the system?
