Folding will not stress all 4 cores evenly. My first two cores run about 4C hotter because there are more instructions going through them. My last two run less instructions I guess because that is where it holds idle processing capacity.

if you want to test your whole system's and see what's the therotical maximum temperature, i suggest you burn your graphics card with ATI Tool at the same time, run small FFT using Prime95.

i had ~5c difference on the CPU temperature between just CPU and whole system stress testing. the max temperature i take is 8 hour+ whole system stress, if my GPU is below 85c all the time, and my CPU is below 70c. while nothing failed, only then i deem this 24/7 worthy.

I dont know if thats exactly right. I know that stress testing prime I have two cores that are 2 to 3C lower then the other two. WHen I am folding it is 3 to 4C lower then the other two.

It might not be exactly right but I think i'm on to something here. Look at your resource manager. You should have 4 folding threads. Two threads will be consistently using more resources than the other two. It seems like this is intensional so as to not use the full 100% of the CPU's capacity (I can fold and surf, listen to music etc). It is just a limited amount of reserved resources because I can't run a game and fold at the same time.

Prime95 on the other hand uses all 4 cores evenly and most of the time my temps are within a 0-2C difference.

Actually I have 8 going, I use two smp threads with affinity changer. This gives me the best results as it actually uses all the idle resources.

I guess you are somewhat right if just using smp as it doesn use all the resources available and hence why afffinity changer works to increase your folding potential. I guess I should have looked at it a bit closer.

I think I need to lap all my stuff again and see if I can get my cores closer. It still does the 4c difference between the two sets even at idle without folding.

You really should not be folding to check stability, or if your system has only passed a half assed stability test. You could very well be sending bad data back, wasting project time and CPU cycles.
