Also, you're saying I'm wrong that I think microsoft should create a better product than the last one they rolled out? My, I didn't realize my standards were so high!
I wouldn't believe that crap for a second.

Current drivers on Vista play games at, slightly above, or within 4 frames of XP.

Vista is the product of the future, try using it before bashing it. It is infinity better than XP, I would list all the reason, but I have to sleep tonight.

3dmark06 scores mean absolutely nothing in real world gaming... Go try games.

Vista is better, maybe not in gaming because it loses that precious 3.6 fps you crave so much, but in desktop and anything else its faster for me. I'm sorry they don't cater to your 3dmark program so much.

you would expect it to maybe of added another 300 points not take away. i cant understand how MS have made it worse with SP1 lol. when i first started using vista my fps in games was actually higher than XP. But as soon as i started using vista i mean like installing more games etc, my fps started to drop a lot! in XP my 3dmark06 score is 10025 and in vista it was 9406 so i actually lost about 600 marks..

Hm, what should I trust... Extensive tests performed by Tom's, or what a guy on a forum has to say. I think I'll go with Tom's.

About the only thing Vista does better is load things faster (hello there, superfetch.) If they had just put this capability into SP3, XP would be the clear cut winner.

I think I'll live waiting a few more seconds for my programs to load, and enjoying the increased performance instead. 3.6 fps is about the equivalent of me OCing my gpu from 550/1400 to 645/1700. So I like to think of it this way; Vista is effectively downclocking my card by 95/300.

Aww that's too bad. The main reason for SP1 was increased performance
Oh well I don't really care about benchmark scores anyway.

Funny my 3dmark went up a couple hundred with SP1 as it has with every new driver release so on and so forth. but like others have said 3dmark is a synthetic test that has no real bearing on real world performance, not to mention it was out to market before Vista's first beta was even out. So in reality its not even optimized for Vista in the first place.

Lol, look at that date, those tests are ancient history, they are over a year old, using ancient drivers.

You know what actually matters? You have a 2.66 ghz quad before and after SP1, thats all that matters for 90% of tasks.

Ya big deal, I lost like 90 points, so what? My desktop is reponsive right away when I boot now, before it would just hang for thirty seconds before the antivirus loads because it was conflicting with MS startup services.

Or it just means overclocking your graphics card increases your performance very little. Which is true. 3.6 fps is a very fail gain. The fact is, XP doesn't have superfetch, eventually MS will stop support for XP and they're going to keep constant updates to vista for years to come now. Also, Toms vs. MULTIPLE people here. That toms test? WAS DONE January 29, 2007. Meaning near when vista first came out! Its been a year and drivers changed a lot!
