That toms test? WAS DONE January 29, 2007. Meaning near when vista first came out! Its been a year and drivers changed a lot!
A 3.6 gain isn't so bad when you normally run a game at 42 fps (TF2). Thats an 8% performance boost.

And yeah, my reading comprehension sucks. I saw January 29 and just assumed it was recent.. Searching for more relevant material right now.

Edit: Well, here's the most recent I could find: http://www.sharepointblogs.com/dontp...h-4gb-ram.aspx

XP beat Vista on 7/10 tests, although it did get f'ed up pretty bad on Oblivion.. Funny, that.

After you install sp1
-reinstall your video and audio drivers
-Your system will run slower unless you turn off indexing. Your hard drive will be re-indexed (unless you turn off or do manually) and your system has to "relearn" your usage patterns.

Yeah, movies are 30 fps. But there definitely is a difference between 30 fps and 60 fps, I don't think anyone will argue against that.

As far as the 120 vs 80 thing goes, of course we can't notice it. Our monitors only refresh 60 times per second

Vista sp1 increased my network bandwidth. I'll take that over a synthetic benchmark 100/100 times =)

maybe it's not sp1 on vista that's lessening the score, but rather 3dmark on vista sp1 that's lessening the score.

Aye - was just making a moot point about movies fps. As for current monitors only refreshing at 60hz... you do not, maybe, understand how current monitors work; the refresh oncurrent monitors (lcd) is NOT in any way a reflection of the refresh rate (strangely); Current monitors only refresh pixels that have actively changed during the process of rendering. Hence, if a pixel stays the same colour for, say, 500 frames, then it will NOT have changed its state at all during those frames. 60hz current lcd outperforms and responds better than, say, my old 120hz Iiyama. Know what I mean?

Umm, vista beats XP in that link by a lot, and keeps up with near the same FPS on the others.

If it improved performance a lot... Then his score should have gone up.

And what's with the "stop your whining?" You act like he attacked you by saying something that didn't happen to be positive to vista.

Interesting concept...

For the LOVE OF DOG movies at teh cinema are about 24-35 fps... the human eye is not even advanced enough to distinguish twixt all the many colours that a computer can display.
To hellunback with your £DMark score... you really know, in your heart, that the difference is not noticeable.
You're so wrong...

In a movie, you're not playing. You're just watching, spectating. If you're a hardcore gamer, you would know how different the mouse control feels between 30 and 60FPS. I can even tell the difference (in feeling) between 50 and 60FPS.

It's a LOT different than sitting still watching a movie.

Oh, and just for the reference: I have a completely manual Canon 35mm camera. I set the shutter speed to 1/1000th of a second, hit the shutter, and I can see light pass through. 1/1000th of a second = 1 out of what would be 1000 frames per second. So either I have amazing eyes, or...

Anywho, isn't the rumor that XP SP3 increased performance and such? Why couldn't the significantly advanced, futuristic vista follow suit? Is it just a flop by nature, or do the m$ devs insist on keeping vista in the spotlight of suckiness (since an SP would seem like an opportunity to improve what hasn't been all that great)?
