Quite appropriately, the Achilles does
have one fatal flaw
, and oddly enough it is
it's heel! (ZOMG)
Apparently, the addition of the fourth 8mm HDT heatpipe; and staggered-pipe configuration,
has actually reduced the size of the contact area's "footprint".
See the Illustration on page 5 of the BMR Review
(Test notes and Methodology)
This has in-turn dropped the total performance considerably
From second place for the 1283
(Right behind the OCZV2) - to 5th or 6th place for the newer
I'd call that type of drop in performance, a
"; and, definitely it's "Achilles Heel
[Edit] I wouldn't be soo quick to blame it on the Heatsink spread;
If you look at the picture -sure, the pipe bits are missing along the periphery of the IHS, but the area over the Core(s) is fully covered right?
Only little slivers of "Pipe-to IHS" contact area are missing on only two pipes!
All the rest are overhanging on the other side)
