OMG HDMI cable box?

Thread Starter
Would a HD signal look good on my 1680x1050 screen? My monitor has a DVI and a VGA input. I use DVI for my pc can I connect the HD box to the VGA port? Or should I connect my pc to the VGA port and my cable box to the DVI port?

HD (720) will look luvverly on a 1680 monitor. SOME 1680 monitors will do full 1080 on them (HP w2207h, for example) If the DVI is HDCP compliant you can run 720 on it no probs, with a HDMI-DVI converter.

The one thing to remember is VGA is totally analog, the signal coming out of the HDMI port is going to to be digital (compatible with a dvi-d/dvi-i connection). You would be able to move the PC to the VGA port and see if the HDMI to DVI connection will work with your monitor.

If by full 1080 you mean 1080p, it's not possible on a 22" monitor.

There was one 22" screen announced a while ago that did 1920x1200, so maybe...

Now tell me how you are going to get 1920x1080 pixels on to a screen that outputs only 1680x1050?

It doesn't do FULL HD. sorry matey, it is physically imposable.

Unless you've modded some sort of panel that flips down to give you an extra 30 pixels of vertical resolution, I believe you are mistaken.

Nope - go check the spec... Go check my PS3... Go check my Blu-ray playback with FULL 1080p, NOT i. Case Solved. The 1680x1050 is PC resolution. The monitor handles 1080p fine-and-dandy (Even tho 1080 on anything less than a 42" display is largely un-noticeable )
