Can i turn the Prime95 test down some??

Thread Starter
i use the default settings and torture test my q6600 at 3.2ghz 1.400 volts. When im idle i get temps around 46-48c but when i turn on prime95 the shoot up liek crazy! i actually saw it shoot up to almost 90cso i turned it off imediately. What am i doing wrong? or is prime 95 on too high?

WOW... are you sure you seated that heatsink correctly???

reseat, turning it "down" is impossible and won't benefit you at all

your idle temps are high too

First of all, what would be the point of turning the test down? That defeats the whole purpose.

Second of all, Either you applied the heatsink wrong, applied thermal paste wrong, or are overvolting that thing massively. Reseat it and follow the AS5's site instructions or your going to fry that processor.

Your temps NEED to be under 72C with that processor during small FFT or it is not safe to run it. It also needs to be able to run it without errors for 6-12hours while maintaining safe temps.

yeah, somethings wrong there. usually your temps go up 15c to 25c while running prime, not 40+. i also question the h/s.

Just wanted to add some stuff.

You are using Prime95 v25.6 correct? Any other version is not going to load your processor completely, this can be downloaded from the forums download section.

The default test is "Blend" which doesn't start using 8k Length until about 30 minutes in. If you are getting these temps during 1028k lengths than your processor would see about 110C during 8k tests.

Do you even have a heatsink on the processor?

this is the thing, it will be low in the beginning, like it wont go past 60c then all of a sudden it just shoots up like 17-19 minutes into it. I am using prime 95 v.25.6
