Why so much for so little?

Well I got my E6600 @ 3.2GHz with stock voltage 1.35volts and is completely stable (ran orthos 9+ hours no errors).

So wanted to achieve 3.4GHz. I tried 377x9 at stock voltage and it booted into windows fine. Ran orthos and it errored in like 1 second. So I went back into bios and tried 1.375 volts, booted into windows fine but errored in orthos after one second again. So I went back into bios and tried 1.4 volts, it booted into windows fine but got an error in orthos after like 3 mins.

I didn't want to push it to much because I didn't have the balls lol. So why do i have to push the voltage so much higher just to achieve an extra 200mhz?
I would LOVE to get it to 3.4GHz but I don't really want to play with the voltage because m afraid of damaging the chip (I have NO money atm ).

So say if it was stable at 1.425 volts, am I decreasing its life time alot / have a risk of damaging it or massively degrading it?

The 65nm Core 2 Duos are okay for voltage up to 1.55v. What are your temps? They may be what is slowing you down. You may also want to considering uping the NB voltage and playing around with your RAM.

With 3.2GHz and a warmish room ~28 idle and ~44 load (celsius). When its VERY cold in my room ~20 idle and ~37 load (celcuis) im pretty sure.

You temps are fine, up the voltage and keep going! Don't worry about voltage until you're at 1.48v, once you hit that, you should be more conservative. For temps, I'd say you're good until 65C load.

Intel states that there shouldn't be any degradation of CPU life under 1.55v. That's the max for most people. In truth though, the E6600 can take up plenty of voltage and be fine for long periods of time. It's the CPUs like the E8400 that can't take a lot of voltage(like mine)

Finally an answer about voltages and safety
Ahh that makes me feel alot more better . Well tomorrow Ill try 3.4GHz with 1.425 volts. What fsbxmulti do u recommend? Atm i got it set to 400x8

I prefer using max multi. You can get slightly better RAM:FSB ratios which higher FSB/lower multi. It's all up to you really.
