this sucks!

Thread Starter
Let me start by saying that I am brand new to overclocking and I have a problem. I read a lot of the threads on this forum and I was able to overclock my the q6600 to ~3.2Ghz at:

FSB: 1400mhz
MEM: 700mhz
MULTI: 9
CPU: 1.28v
NB: 1.275v
SB: 1.5v (stock value)
FSBv: +12% (no way of telling the exact value from my BIOS)
RAM: 1.8v 5-5-5-15-2t (all stock values)

now, the system booted fine and ran Prime95 for ~11 hours with no errors with good temps - no more than 60C on the hottest core (CoreTemp).
I was the master of the overclock (or so i thought)!

I did some fiddling with Everest, and noticed that my DIMM voltage value was at 2.1-2.3v !! *** I thought, this can't be good. Checked the BIOS - the RAM was set at 1.8v. Why does it suddenly go up when I have it set to a specific value?! Sure enough, a few hours later I start getting random BSODs. Ran Memtest86x - one if the sticks is full of errors.

What did I do wrong?? (except for the fact that I bought cheapo RAM that's rated for 1.8~1.9v)

You might just have a bad stick. Take the stick with errors out and then set your voltage to its normal and see what a different program besides everest says. If you get two programs that say they are getting overvoltaged then you might have something to worry about.

What is another program which gives you the DIMM voltage? I've looked all over the place, but the only one I found was Everest.

Speedfan will give vDimm if your MB supports it. It is usually reported as Vcore2 in the bottom left corner, but it reads my vDimm correctly. I will post a pic tonight when I get home.

Thats what you did wrong, did you mix value RAM with quality RAM? Or were all the sticks the same kind? Reguardless of which one it is pushing 2.2v or more through RAM with the rated volts you mentioned as asking for quick death which has happened to one stick.
