Find the Speed of each core on AMD dual core and quad cores?

Im trying to find this out because so so called HP rep at my job used to be an intel rep. He is going around saying that on intel chips if the processor says it runs at 2.6 that means each core runs at 2.6. That sounds completely wrong no matter how i think about it. And then says to find the speed of AMD chips, you take the total speed(2.6) and divide by the number of cores. Again this sound completely wrong. So whats the deal?

The speed of the processor is what all cores are running at. If you OCed a quad to 4ghz each core would be 4ghz.

You should take a rig that is AMD and show him to shut his uneducated fan-boy butt up.

Only way to show people sometimes is to shove the truth down their throat with a jackhammer. But, to make this a truely riteous insult, make sure his boss is around, and all his friends/collegues. Public humiliation for your alleged knowledge is the best remedy to a fanboy.

I wouldn't even talk to anyone who did stuff like that, he clearly is working at a job he shouldn't be working at and thinks his knowledge with computers is alot more than it really is. Just like 90% of the best buy employees.

I'd honestly tell my boss he's telling customers the wrong facts just so they buy a certain brand. Pretty sure he'd get in trouble.

My thoughts are, find benchmarks online, like 3-4 of them, that prove him wrong. Print them off and show them to him.

Well if he's talking about the model # of the CPU for AMD as the speed i.e. 4200+ then he is correct. A 4200+ is running 2 cores at 2.1Ghz each thus the 4200+ # that AMD throws on the box.

And yes on intel chips each core is running at the stated speed i.e. a q6600 running at 2.4Ghz is 4 cores each independantly running at 2.4Ghz

i agree, there is nothing worse than a fanboy or uneducated person working in a retial inviroment that give incorrect infromation.

a 4200+ x2 am2 is 2.2

run some benches and prove her is wrong and for each core run a instance of cpu-z to show what each core is running at, by setting each cpu-z instance to 1 core only. by right clicking on the cpu speed and selecting the corasponding core.

check this about midway down the page:

AMD Power Monitor
AMD Power Monitor Version 1.2.0 - AMD Power Monitor displays the current frequency, voltage, utilization, and power savings of each core on each processor in a system. This version of AMD Power Monitor supports systems with Athlon™ 64/FX, mobile AMD Athlon™ 64, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2, AMD Turion™ 64, AMD Turion™ 64 X2, AMD Sempron™, mobile AMD Sempron™, AMD Phenom™, AMD Opteron™, and AMD Opteron™ Third-Generation processors.

link

to crosscheck on Intel platforms, use Intel Thermal Analysis Tool

and from my experience the most deviation that either core will have from each other is 1-2 MHz in either AMD or Intel

edit--------------------
here's how it looks

also a head's up on voltage, it displays what BIOS is set to rather than what is actively being provided

A 2.6 GHZ Athlon 64 is equal to 3.9 GHZ on a Intel pentium 4, so I would say that guy is blowing smoke you know where.
