Windows help i keep getting the BSOD - Page 2

Thats the thing with (some) winblows (L)users, eh? Rather than try to find a solution to what may (or may not) be a system-critical error, lets just go right ahead and wipe the drive... re-install the OS and go from square one; As long as this attitude prevails, windows errors will become more and more common-place - as we will have none willing to find a *real* solution.

The heart of it is this: Wiping and re-installing the OS = FAIL.

Don't get me wrong... sometimes it IS necessary, but those who use that advice as the first solution have failed to gain ANY knowledge or experience.

For god sakes kid, use some punctuation! IDK what your trying to say

Is it the WINDOWS Ultimate CD that Boots into a repair utility? If so... just run the repair utility !

If its the CD in your link - Dont use that.... you need to find your original Windows installation disk!

I recommend you to search really, really hard for that Vista disc.

EDIT: Did you buy it retailed/OEMed, or did you download it from somewhere?

Have you ran prime95 on the blend setting for atleast 6 hours to see if your CPU is stable? You said you tested the ram so thats cover, but the CPU could cause this too.

Otherwise... Its reformat time, find your disc, not sure how could could lose a OS CD? They are pretty pricey..

I agree here - That repair utility on the disk is GOLD. It has a very good chance of fixing whatever issues there is with an operating system. Whatever this doesn't fix, only a fresh reinstall will (usually).

well i still have no disk. its a friends computer not mine. i tried reinstalling windows from the file on the hard drive in the i386 folder, it started installing, got to the section where it restarts and then i got the BSOD again. Needless to say i couldnt get it to finish. I also tried it in safe mode same thing.

just to recap things i have done so far:
memtest
swapped the ram slotts, and tried each individually
ran prime95 for around 3 hours then windows locked up
tried to reinstall windows but got the BSOD

Ran:
crap cleaner
avg anti virus
registry cleaner
hijack this
rootkit revealer

nothing has changed with what i have done. Is there a way to get a new windows disk to do a complete reformat? without buying a new windows os?

Hardware problem!

Start testing parts individually!

Was Prime95 on smallFFT? or blend?

Blend. I tested the hard drive, and ram. That means its either the board, cpu, or psu. What is the best way to determine witch one?

Try running the "Small FFT" setting for like 6 hours because that will stress only your CPU. If that fails then the issue is definitely the CPU. Blend tests your system as a whole, so if that test fails then we know something is unstable, 99.9% chance its either your ram or CPU.

Also, How long did you run memtest86+ before, and did you run the latest version?

You can get the latest version here: http://www.overclock.net/downloads/1...memtest86.html

If memtest passes for 3 hours then i'm gonna say its your CPU that is unstable and you should set stock if overclocked. If you arn't overclocked your motherboard might be undervolting it. However if your CPU is unstable it could cause memtest to detect errors when there really isnt any. So I would run prime95's small fft test before this.
