P5N-D Overclock? How?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, yeh I'm new here, but I have been searching for days on how to overclock my P5N-D mobo... I understand its not the best mobo to oc.. but I'm only gonna try and get it to about 2.8-3.0 with my q6600. I've tried looking through BIOS many times and still can't figure out anything, I've almost come to the point where I just want to use nTune to do it. Does anyone have any guide or something I could look at to help me?

Thanks
I hope this is in the right forums

I read your guide, man this stuff is complicated. I seemed to have overclocked my system but it appears to be unstable when i benchmark crysis.

I run the P5N-D with a Q9300. (quad core 1333 FSB, 2.5ghz)
I ended up running my FSB to 1850 with NB and HT voltage to 1.60v. I have all other voltages to auto. Havent messed with the memory yet at all.

It crashes like 30 seconds into the benchmark.

Im running at 49-52c on the core temps.

Going to try to up the voltage a lil bit. think i should be lettin it run auto on everything?

EDIT: Adding more voltage caused windows to blue screen mid load. So no on that. Im stumped. My temps are really low...so it seems odd to me that id be having instability problems. I have an 800 watt PSU. So it cant be power problems...my settings must be bunk somewhere. This is all so friggen confusing.

Changed my FSB to 1666 with 1.44v on HT and NB. Ran all the way through CPU benchmark pretty well. AVG FPS was 36.

I havent messed with ram at all. Its wierd, i run Gskill 1066 but the highest i can seem to get my ram to go is 925. Anyway, any help on this particular subject would rock.

The guides ive read on this board dont seem to describe the BIOS very well. So im winging it. But the board seems REALLY good at not letting you mess things up too bad. Always recoverable.

Ronin, I am Italian. I have a d-p5n but I read that the q9300 is not compatible with the motherboard. You had problems? see

It works for certain. Im typing on the system right now. It didnt require an update or anything for my system. I just put it together and it worked.

Try upping the HT farther, closer to 1.55. Read about another ASUS board where that helped tremendously and I used it to get the E6300 up to 2.8. Not the best OC but it worked for me. On the QX6700 its the chip temp holding me back. Grrrr.

This board has a weak overclock with Q6600 I couldnt get it past 3.0ghz stable. I got 3.2ghz and booted into windows did prime95 for 7hours and no errors or warnings so I thought i was all good, then when I restarted my computer in the morning it keep going into powersave mode so guess prime didnt work after all.

You can probally get it 3.2ghz but it will take lots of time adjusting each and every single voltage or memory timing to get it stable. So be ready for lots of reboots and testing.
