WD Caviar 750g Very slow speed

Thread Starter
I have a WD Caviar WD7500AAKS-00RBA and when i have noticed weird sounds when listening to music and lag when watching videos, in fact pretty much everything on that drive which i use as media storage. So i decided to test it's performance with HD Tune and it hits a max of 6.3MB/s when it used to have over 90MB/s. I also have two another drives in RAID0 which have normal transfer rate. This problem only happens in Windows XP, in Vista the drive functions correctly.

It is insanely fragmented? Try defragging it.

You could also try downloading WD Diagnostics and checking the hard drives health.

EDIT: If it only happens in XP and not Vista than i'm honestly not sure...

Well i tried running WD Diagnostics twice and it blue screened me both times with a BAD_POOL_HEADER, so no luck there and for defragging it it's gonna take days with that speed, although it's only 5% fragmented so that isn't the problem.

Format (legit, not quick) the drive. Get rid of any bad sectors...see how it goes from there.

That blue screen is caused by Raid 0. The windows version of the program I recommended blue screens any raid users, sorry about that. Try the dos version, burn it to a disc and boot to it. Then just run "extended test" on your drive. Make sure you select the drive first.. the menus are kind of confusing.

I don't think this is a problem with that drive itself but with XP. It might of somehow got corrupted.

He only used "dude"...

Anyway, try checking the drive's health with the WD boot CD.
