Intel Xeon X3320 45nm Quad (With Pics!) - Page 3

Yea, that's always in my mind. I'm only at 1.25V right now (for 430 FSB), low you might say, but I got 400 FSB stable at 1.145V. I'm planning to go 1.35V max (just below Intel's Q9300 VID).

What is the VID? Max safe voltage?

What is it for the Q9450? I'd like to know what voltages will be safe when I finally get mine!

The VID Range for the Q9450 is the same as the Q9300, which is 0.85V to 1.3625V. I'd suggest sticking with max vCore to be 1.3625V, or a bit higher if you really need to.

I'm a bit reluctant to do that, but I may do it in the future.

There is none (except the price ). It's like the E8400 and the E3110.

SLAWR is the Q9450, SLAWE is the Q9300 and SLAWF is the X3320.

Okay, so I've got the maximum overclock I'm happy with: 3.3 GHz (440 x 7.5). I've tried 445 FSB, but it won't be stable without ridiculous voltages (for me) on the North Bridge. Anything over 445 (even at a multiplier of 6) won't boot, so I believe ~445 MHz is the FSB wall for my chip. The overclock is still VERY good (800 MHz over stock) and the FSB is also good considering that it's a quad core.

Ultimately, I feel that this is a good chip, only let down by it's relatively low multiplier and (maybe) a bad batch. And for this reason, I believe the Q9450 would overclock much better with its multiplier of 8. I would recommend this chip (and the Q9450) over the Q6600, if the price is reasonable.

Stay tuned for the RAM overclock tomorrow.

fsbwall at 445?? hm
Maybe you should try a different mobo and check max fsb. Or check youre coolers, maybe re-apply with some AS5 on sb and nb and cpu.

I had several Xeon`s (a few in my sig) and they all rock bigtime. Xeon series are simular to "normal" C2D cpu`s, only better batch usally, they are good, but like all cpu`s there are good ones and "bad" ones.

I have not had the pleasure to test a 45nm Xeon yet, but soon i have 3320 for test.

btw, if you want the ultimate performance on air, the TRUE stands out, I had my Xeon Quad 3220@4200mhz benching pi on a TRUE with a good 12cm fan , running 3600mhz@1,36vcore 24/7, its a kick ass aircooler bro.

Just what I was waiting for. Thanks for the update. Can you show us the Cinebench R10 results @ 3.3Ghz also? And the Coretemp results while Prime is on as well. Thanks
