Best Core2 Duo overclockers?

Thread Starter
I'm looking at upgrading this e2180 in a few months to the best overclocking Core2 Duo out there. You see, this e2180 is awesome, but I bought it to get me started. And wow. What an extreme way to start.

Anyway, I think I'm going to stick with this mobo (see the sig rig). I read a review on NewEgg that he had to flash the bios to support the E8400. Can this mobo's bios be flashed using a flash drive?

But over all, I'm interested in finding out which of the Core2 Duo's are overclocking the best, including the very best overclocker.

Thank you.

E8400 is supported in the latest Bios. And is a monster overclocker....just go easy on the voltage and don't treat them like a 65nm chip.

Yep you can flash by a flash drive.

65nm would probably be the E6600 and 45nm, the E8400. (although I am curious to see more E8200 & E8500 results)

yes, you can flash BIOS from any type of bootable drive.

With typical air cooling, OC will settle down around 4G so either E8400 or E8500 is a good option.

Sweet, my instincts sound right so far regarding the e8400.

Yep, you're right. The 45nm is the e8400. That's a part of the big deal with it.

So, what are some other really good Core2 Duo overclockers?

If you can pick one up on the cheap, an e6750 will OC well. I've got mine up to 4.2 GHz, and i've never broken 1.50 V

I'm not looking for information on CPUs. I'm asking for the best Core2 Duo overclockers so that I know what to look for when I decide to upgrade (which will be within the next few months).

screw dual cores. more and more games and apps are trending toward multi threading and utilization of quads. With the same board you have i can run my q6600 to windows at 3.85, and with better cooling you can get 4.0.

please reconsider taking a step backward and get a quad.
