Cpu upgrade for Acer Extensa

Thread Starter
Hi everyone. I have an Extensa 4620-4605 coming in on Saturday and wanted to know what options I had for upgrading the cpu. It's coming with an Intel Pentium Dual Core T2310 @ 1.46GHz. I'm thinking that since the cpu only has 1MB of L2 cache, I should at least throw in there a similar cpu with higher hertz for improved performance. From what I've read, the cpu though being dual core, is at times bested by a Pentium M @ 2.0Ghz. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

well, i did some research on the cpus, and I came up with a new question..I know overclocking a laptop is condemned, but from checking out intel's mobile pentium dual core family, it seems that the only difference among models were steppings, though i saw only two different ones, and higher clock speeds achieved by increasing the multiplyer. has anyone tried to oc one of these processor before? if so what kind of results did you see? i am hoping to at least get to a 1.6GHz clock speed. should i try ocing or perhaps just upgrade the cpu to a higher clock speed model?

You can't change the FSB on branded laptops because the BIOS is locked, and software overclocking causes a wealth of problems.
You'd be best to see how hard it is to upgrade the CPU (I'm using an Acer TravelMate, and I gotta take apart the whole damn laptop in order to reach it).
