Dual Graphics Card?

Thread Starter
Can I run an 8600 GT with and 8800 GT? I know I will probably have to get a new power supply to run those.

Also if I do get the 8800 to run with it will the FR increase or will I have to buy something else to increase the FR?

No they are 2 completely different cards

You can only SLi cards of the same model

E.g 8600 GT, 8600GT

You can SLi 2 cards of the same model, but different brand

e.g

XFX 8600GT
EVGA 8600GT

Also, say one 8600GT was faster than the other, the faster card usually adjusts itself to the slightly slower model card

And i believe 1 8800GT is better than 2 8600GT's, so you're better off selling your current 8600GT and buyin an 8800GT

And before you ask, the 8800GT is better than the 9600GT

ok, first off, your running an XPS so its probably better if you ask dell about the SLI capability of your motherboard. No, you cannot use two different graphics cards together, they have to be the same so you would have to get another 8600GT, but an 8800GT is far better than twin 8600GT's so your better off just upgrading the graphics card, again i would advise you to contact Dell for more information on what your computer can handle.

Alright thanks, yeah I figured that an 8800GT was better than the 9600GT from what I have read.

Thanks for not letting me make that mistake

Yeah i will contact dell, it seems like the smart thing to do.

Actually You Can Use 2 Cards

You can run them both in your system but you can't sli them both. Since they're both nvidia and use the same drivers no problem. Using a Nvidia and a ATI can cause driver conflicts

Yes you can run them both and say hook a monitor to each one, or 2 monitors to each one. however you cannot scale them, so you not seeing a performance increase on one monitor.

I used to run 2 cards in mine to run 3 monitors total, 1 card handle my dual monitor set-up and the other was hooked to a gateway monitor that i used for gaming. It did actually supply some improvement as i could do more graphics intensive things at the same time, ie play games and use photoshop or adobe premier.

so yes you can but its not going to help for gaming
