New to Computer Building - Page 5

IMO you should drop the P5E in that build for a P35 board. This would allow for a q6600 or a 45nm CPU. I have a P5E it's a great board, I love/loved it. I'd look for a DS3R/DS3L. Had one of those too, it did 500FSB. Very nice for the price.

Wish I could get a e8400 off a legit site like newegg but been sold out for a while. Hey how many fans do you have installed in your case by the way? I'm just wondering how many I will need. Not gonna do massive overclocking, but might modify the coolermaster 690 case a little bit to allow for a window.

Some people on another forum said that the Xeon line is for servers. Their L2 Cache is optimized for handling databases.

Not true; the E3110 is literally just a re-branded E8400. The thermal spec is higher and the silicon is better; for that price, it's a real steal.

How come I don't see anyone on this forum with it but rather the e8400? Why does everyone chose that over the other?

The xeon wasn't avaible when I was ready to order. BTW, I got my E8400 from TG for $199.99. Oh, it was a retail version too.

Vitaminx, I noticed that you're in Ohio. I am as well, and I just bought the parts for a computer that are almost exactly your specs. I got the Gigabyte P35-DS3L mobo instead, and got the same memory with the DHX heat spreaders from MicroCenter in Sharonville (near Cincinnati).

I'd HIGHLY recommend getting the Gigabyte P35 DS3L mobo instead, and getting the Q6600 CPU with it. MicroCenter has a deal going on right now that prices the Q6600s for $212, including tax. It's in-store only, but that's still around $50 cheaper than ANYWHERE else, Newegg included. Considering you're looking at a CPU that's only $10-$20 cheaper, I'd change the mobo (which is less expensive and has the added benefit of longevity) and go get yourself a Q6600 from MicroCenter. You'd actually be getting more power per dollar.

Interesting thought. I'm north of you. Probably a 3-4 hour drive difference I'd imagine. Yea that video card we got picked out is freaking nice in my opinion. Nice price and ratings are high for it. Do you already got all those parts by the way? I'm interested to see how that psu fits in the coolermaster 690. You could probably give me some thoughts on it.

Edit: I'm thinking about getting these parts listed under my system. I think it looks pretty solid for gaming. Any thoughts? Stuff I'm not too sure about is the hard drive and power supply. I'm in between western digital and seagate and for the psu its between the one i have listed and a 520 w corsair.
