Mines not nearly as shiny as yours, but heres what I did awhile back, it shows step by step...
Alright, well good news, and really bad news....
I went ahead and did the lapping. Though I would have liked to take it down to a mirror finish, I only had 2000 Grit, and I got the damn thing pretty shinny. Here is how it all went.
Set up ready to start lapping
Stock CPU, this is how it looked
Marked up and ready to go, let the games begin....
Starting the 800 Grit.... Look how concave it was
Halfway through the 800 Grit.
3/4 of the way done the 800 Grit.
Done the 800 Grit.....
End of 1000 Grit
Mid 1500 Grit
End 1500 Grit..
And the final product, after the 2000 Grit..... There are lots of fine scratches, but I didn't have the time, patence, or higher grit sandpaper to get that "Mirror finish....
Last but not least mounted in the socket ready to go!
Now for the disater segment.... While screwing in My Zalman 9700 to the conversion bracket, I broke a screw off in the bracket, and was unable to get it out.... So until my new Tuniq Tower arrives, I am stuck with the stock intel HSF... IRONY IS A *****! oh well, I will have to wait and see how much of a temperature decrease i acheieved.... Thanks to all who helped! Especially MadMax... REP+
