Sure you can. At Orchard Supply, you can get all the way up to 2000 or so, and you can buy it by the individual sheet.

Getting all the required sheets to step up costs a little less than any 'lapping kit' I've seen, and you get more than 4x the sandpaper and you can cut your own strips yourself.

Heck, Walmart sells wet/dry sandpaper in the autos section. It's only ~$2 for like..8 sheets up to 2000 grit.

So am i getting the impression not to go for it but to buy them individually? what if they is not a possibility and that the lapping kit is the way? not to forget to mention, things here have bumped up abit in prices due to inflation.

im just asking, would that make a good lapping kit? and the guide i linked as well be a recommended one?

hey everyone, i know its been awhile, as again ive been pretty busy, but im definately going ahead with lapping, so im taking it that u lot are suggesting this one?:

http://www.easypckits.com/products/premiumlk/

which is essentially this one?:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Heatsink-Lappi...1%7C240%3A1318

should i go for it?

and shall i add something like this on top of the pie?:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Arctic-Silver-...1%7C240%3A1318

or just the tube itself?

and lastly, can anyone recommend me now a good lapping guide? this is for my E6600 (yes, u can laugh at me) would it be worth it? as opposed to upgrading?

Kits are a waste of money, they just buy that stuff at the hardware store then resale it as a kit.

you can go to any hardware store and get the right sandpaper. Heck even walmart carries the right stuff. All you need is some 220, 400, and 600 then you are done. You dont need to go further than 600 unless you just want it it be shiny.
