My problem is that Almost everything I watch is on the digital/HD channels on cable. As far as I know there's no tv tuner card thats going to get channel 825 in HD.

I think the Hauppauge PVR-1600/1800 can. Not sure, I have one coming Wednesday, I'll try and see if it works!

Doesn't an ATI TV wonder come with a software suite that does all of this already? Mine certainly did, and I can't imagine buying a TV tuner if it was not from ATI.

Whats the use of this? Not even a digital Tuner card will work when the FCC finally mandates digital broadcasting as they cannot take cableCARD's.

You need to make sure it can view ATSC (OTA HD) channels, and not NTSC (analog SD) But other than that, the picture quality is awesome!

Depends on if it's a local HD channel, or if it's an encrypted channel. There are some cards out that can decode unencrypted QAM channels (the standard cable goes with is QAM, but most channels are encrypted) It all just depends on what the actual channels is. And if it picks it up, it won't be labeled as channel 825, but rather, it remaps it to a different channel number.

This is for replacing that software suite with more functionality. This can do more than yours can.

The FCC Mandate is for antennae broadcast (you know, the rabbit ears, snowy fuzzy crap that's completely free?) They will be mandating that those broadcasters convert from the NTSC (analog) broadcast standard to ATSC (digital) broadcast standard. Your cablecard thing is for cable and not the broadcast. (as far as i know, most tv tuner cards, won't record digital cable, but will record analog cable, except for cards with QAM capabilities. They can record unencrypted digital cable)

Wait...What the heck is this? Like you record your digitial cable onto your computer or something? Or do you actually bypass cable alltogether and watch TV programs on your PC.

I would really like some info on this! Time to do some research!

You are correct, stumped. Cable you get from you cable company comes two ways. One, you take a coaxial cable from the wall to your TV (analog, basic cable). Two, you take a coaxial cable from your wall to a STB(digital, digital cable). After the FCC mandated changeover to digital OTA, you will still be able to get analog "basic" cable from the wall. Your tuner card(s) will still work with the analog cable you get from the wall. You can still use your tuner card(s) if they are equipped with a digital tuner for the digital OTA signals.

Hope I clarified any misconceptions.

That's a cool program. I was just using it. I'm having trouble with my tv tuner though, I can't pick up channel 13 for some reason, and that's the only channel that I really wanted to pick up.

Yeah, I think it's encrypted as it's one of those HD DVR type boxes that they can have full control of from the central office, I.E. If I order a channel or package they can turn it on in like 5 seconds, or if I don't pay my bill on time I get "this channel not available, please call" etc. and the DVR will still tape shows while it's "soft" shut off but I cannot view the DVR recordings on the box (old or new) until I pay the bill, then it's back on inside of a minute from paying over the phone. That sort of thing. And I live too far out to get over the air HD, which is a real bummer as for some reason they don't have the local PBS channel in the HD channels even though they have all the others.
