Toshiba Portege M400 Lock-Ups

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I dunno if anyone here is familiar with this tablet PC, but I have an M400. Lately, I've been experiencing random hangs since upgrading to the latest BIOS. I was using the BIOS it shipped with XP (which is was "not" compatible with) just fine, but decided to upgrade to the latest Vista compatible BIOS. Since then, during general usage, and even before Windows boots occasionally, I will experience a complete lock-up, and the fan will spin up to 100%. The system is completely unresponsive then.

Does anyone know what might cause this, and a possible fix? Thanks for any tips...

BTW, I do have Vista SP1 installed... I was hoping that might solve it, but it has locked up since...

At least I see I'm not the only one this happens to! I'm running Vista Business SP1 with Toshiba's 3.60 BIOS and 4g RAM and all current drivers. Anti-virus and firewall are up-to-date, and I even did a fresh install of Windows and all drivers. And I'm not even over-clocking the fracking thing.

With Vista as one of the first big "achievements" of Steve Ballmer, I won't be buying M$ stock anytime soon.

I have an M400, 4Gb of RAM, and Windows Vista SP1. The same behavior exists, often when I move the tablet (carry it) after disconnecting from power. I saw a bulletin on the Toshiba support site about wireless NIC drivers needing updated, but I was already current.

I recently had the motherboard replaced, and that is when this started. I was thinking of reinstalling the OS, but now you ave me thinking that is not going to help.

Reviving an old thread, but it's the accelerometers for the HDD protection. Disable that and you're good.

~Cheers~

I took it back in and they replaced the motherboard again, and now it works great for me.
