Is this motherboard any good?

Thread Starter
I am recieving a replacement board from Abit. I originally had an AN8 32X that tanked on me. Anyway they did not have any replacements for that old 939 board that tanked on me.
They gave me a few choices and I chose this intel board:

ABIT AW9D-MAX LGA 775 Intel 975X

I know it supports 800mhz & 1066mhz bus. I was just wondering if anybody had any idea how well this board runs. I'm planning on outfitting it with a Q6600.

Thanks for the info.

I was considering that board along with a couple of other Abit boards a few months ago for a friend, they looked great and got good report too. You can check the reports out here if you've not seen it already.......

It is a 975X chipset board. You can put a Q6600 on it and should work well. But If I can change, I would go for P35 or X38 if you want to do some OC and max your Q6600. Great P35 and X38 boards such as Abit IP35-Pro, DFI LP P35/X38 or Gigabyte P35-DS3R/X38-DS4 etc.

Thanks.. I might consider selling it then once I receive it but I think I'm going to read some more reviews. Also I plan on running sli. The review link orbiter put up shows this board to be quite a good Overclocker. They OC'ed an E6300 to 3.1ghz. Shouldn't the Q6600 OC equally as well or better on this board?

If you want to SLI, then you have to buy an nvidia board. SLI isn't supported by Intel chipsets - only crossfire is.

Can't say for sure on any quad OC figures as I've not tried one but I would have thought that a board like that would OC quite well considering the test results. Also note that, that Abit board is a crossfire board. Since those tests where carried out Abit have relesed new BIOS's for the board which help with OCing.

Thanks guys for the info I didn't realize it was a crossfire board lol. I haven't used an intel in years. Anyway I was looking into it and there appears to be modified drivers on the market to make the board sli capable. In any case I may have to sell this board and go with a board that has an nvidia chipset.

That's interesting. Although the Skulltrail platform can do crossfire and SLI. Grr, make me mad knowing that Intel can do both but won't. Jerks.

If you don't plan to upgrade to 45nm Quad, the evga 680i A1 board is the way to go. Otherwise, get a evga 780i board especially keep the rig for awhile.

Yeah, if their chipsets OFFICIALLY supported SLI they would be simply the best on the market.
