Need Advice...

Any advice as to if this would be a good setup? I've been out the tech arena for awhile.. I've been hearing lots of people say 8800GT over 3870 etc etc.. also what about the mobo and cpu combo?

MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Phenom 9500 Agena 2.2GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor Model HD9500WCGDBOX

MSI RX3870-T2D512E OC Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

Good motherboard. MSI has been putting out some rock solid boards lately, that one no exception. Good for overclocking as well. As for the Phenom, this is just personal opinion, I'm not sold on this batch of quad core processors quite yet. If they can get me a 65 watt or even a *gasp* 45 watt quad, that's the meal ticket. If you have a little extra money, go with the 9600 black edition. Unlocked multi, and should get you close to 3 ghz on air.

Flip a coin for the video card. Nvidia just came out with the 9 series as well, so that's something to consider.

DO NOT GET THE PHENOM!

At lest not that version.

Many of them have bad cores, the new phenoms, titled 9550, 9650 ect. fixed this problem, and are expected to OC much better. But they are not out yet so...

Wait on the Phenom until the better ones come out.... if you need a CPU right now, grab a 5000 Black to use until then.

Ok so I came up with this one.

MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard

BFG Tech BFGE88512GTOC2E GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

2x Kingston HyperX NVIDIA SLI-Ready 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX8500D2K2/2GN

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core Processor

Change from the 5600+ to the 5000+ black and get yourself a nice heat sink and fan. I run A-Data in all the machines i build, including my arcade machine. My home desktop has G-skill because it was cheaper for 2x2 gig sticks :~. They're all ddr2 800 but overclock nicely.

Ok so switched the ram out since ive been hearing some ram isn't actually 1066, but 800 then OC'd.. and the reason I went with the 5600+ is the 1mb L2 cache
