Swapping out PSU fans?

Thread Starter
My PSU has a low-rpm 120mm fan in the back. It appears to just be screwed in. Could I swap it out for something with a little more power? My 40mm fan moves more air than this one.

you could but some psu's require you to solder the new fans wire onto where the old one was cause some psu's do not use a plug....if you have a soldering iron and some lead then go ahead....

or u can just cut the wire in half and connect the new one there
use double-sided tape to mound the 40mm

wouldnt recomend it though, the 40mm fan might move more air than the 120mm one but the 40mm fan directs air in one area of the PSU only unlike the 120mm fan

Don't use tape use shrink wrap instead... with time the tape will fail.

I have good results with twisting bare wires together then heat-shrinking with the smallest that'll slide over the twist--no solder needed

You sure that 40 pushes more air than the 120? 120's usually are low rpm fans that push more air than smaller higher rpm fans....
