video card preventing system from powering up

Thread Starter
I went away for a couple days and came back to find my comp on but no video signal present. So i did the usual, restarted, reseated and replugged everything in. This still did not help. After trying a third hard reset my computer won't even make it to the bios menu. I starts for a half a second then dies. I took my card out and tried it in an older machine and the same thing happened to that machine and its PS is 50 wats lower.

Currently i have:

nvidia superclocked 8800gts 320mb
e6600
windows vista
2 seagate barracuda hd,s
4 gigs corsair ram
450 wat ps
gigabyte 965p

if enough of the memory heat sinks for the card are off will it fail to power up?

i also have a thermaltake cooler and silent knight for card and processor.

Any help is appreciated

try this keep the power cord on the vid card, take it out of the slot and see if ur system boots up like powers up. if that works then i think ur PCie slot is dead.

btw: fill in ur system specs under user cp. it'll help get others involved in ur prob.

a mod should move this to the nvidia section.

ur card is DEAD. a capacitor prob.blew up. , did u register that card w/ EVGA? if not i would register it and then get ur reciept call up EVGA and get an RMA # it takes like a week then u can have another card or if u want to upgrade now's a good time but iwould still get my rma cause u can get some $$ back for that card if u sell it.
