Aaaah - I see!

No problem but this kind of non-scientific assertion ought to be followed by "imho"..

yeah and having a good sound card can give you better FPS

If you have "max" / "high" settings in a game for audio. If you use a good sound card compared to the onboard. You will get more fps becuase less cycles are used on your cpu from the audio chip that is onboard your motherboard .

If you ever have a game with onboard audio. Select something like medium or low (depends if the rate goes lower, if not than change) for sound options

Fair enough, but there's a huge difference between what you "can hear" and that which has been been verified by independent quantitative / qualitative anlaysis.

If you are advising somebody on how they should spend their hard earned dosh the least you can do is give them the foundation of your recommendation.

This field is subjective enough without armchair experts spouting their unqualified opinions off at the drop of a hat...

Rider have you tested a X-Fi well lets say Xtreme Music with a Onboard HD? If so what are the software you used to test them? As for me i have tested each and every X-Fi,Audigy series except Audigy 4,Xonar,some Onkyo cards and more so i know a bit about Audio......

I advised him because i have experienced the cards.....

Hey chanster I've got a Chaintech AV-710 it's a good card as far as i can tell but i was thinking about getting a X-Fi gamer. Would i be able to tell much of a difference or should i just stick with the Chaintech?
From AV710 to Gamer Yes you can hear a difference but not a lot.....Going from a card like Audigy to XG then the difference is a lot......Cause the AV 710 uses the VIA Envy 24 chip which is close to audiophile grade chips.....

But for Games you will see a Huge Difference over the AV 710.......

In my experience with extrememusic its akin to buying a 1970 Duster, removing the am radio and installing a cd player.
The difference was huge.

Good! I'm genuinely pleased that you just haven't passed on the thoughts of others!

However, you should state as much in your original post!!

Perhaps you haven't spent much time with science or evidence based reasoning but statements like "20-30 times better" need support from measured data. This allows us all to make qualified judgements based on the validity of your opinions rather than just hope, with fingers crossed, that you are in a position to make proper judgement.
Read any decent review of anything and they lay out their methods and assumptions. It's about as fundamental as it gets.

I'm not saying you don't know your stuff (and for all I know you are a bloody Nobel Prize winner, though I doubt it), but the at the risk of repeating myself, conclusion without method means nothing.
