Zalman CNPS9700 LED

Thread Starter
To start off, yes I know there are like millions of Zalman threads, I read most of them this morning and still don't understand which way to install the S Clip? Is it preference or am I a total noob? Just don't get the diagram that came with the packaging, about to install it which way I really want to, but don't want to damage my CPU somehow by installing it incorrectly
I just don't see what this "retention guide" is, sorry for being so noobish..

To say the least this thing is holding up my build and I want to finish it tonight

Need some super help here, +rep for some much needed help

install the square plastic mount onto the motherboard, with the plastic fasten on the back, then theres the metal bar, fit heatsink, place metal bar though the middle where the plate is, should be a hole in the bar that fits onto the plate, fasten to mount with the 2 screws supplyed with the heatsink, use the alen key provided, fasten both sides, a little at a time till nice and snug, hope this helps

Yea its weird. Took me awhile to understand it as well. h3k has basically summed it up. When u install the bracket, place the zalman 9700led on the cpu (the right way) get the curvy shaped bracket, place it through the heat pipes and screw it on

Lol just tried to put it on and one side goes on nice but the other side is way up in the air? Is this normal? I can prolly get it down but the clip would have to be bent a little bit...sigh it's like someone doesn't want me completing this build lol

yeah you have to apply pressure... thats what keeps it in place. dont worry if it wiggles in place, it will stiffen when the thermal paste does.
