2x8800GT > 1x9800gx2???

Thread Starter
I was just pondering EVGA "stepping up" one of my 8800gt's for a 9800gx2. If I sold the other 8800gt, the whole thing would cost $150.

So what kind of difference would I see going from 8800gt SLI to a single 9800gx2?

The whole idea would be eventually to run 2 9800gx2's in SLI.

Not much of a difference. The 9800GX2 is obviously better, but 2 8800GT's is:

1. worth the money

&

2. better bang for your buck

I suggest to stick with 'em.

i would go with he 9800GX2 since its newer and you can Sli them in the future. It just depends. Although im sure that the 9800GX2 will have better performance with new drivers. I would just get ti cause in the end you are goign to upgrade anyways and when your step up time is up then it will be harder to get rid of the 8800GT's and would waste a bit more money.

What i would do is wait until its close to the end of of your step up and then step up since the prices are most likey going to be dropped soon.

If you have the money for a 9800GX2, I would go for it. It does seem to perform more then twice as good as two 8800GTs, at least in Crysis.

if your plan is to end up with dual 9800GX2's than wouldnt doing the step up plan be the obvious way to get there? i mean, by heeping the 8800GT's now, you kind of stopping yourself in your tracks on the path to upgrade and letting the cost go to upgrade go up over time.
