Well, I'm now added to the dead X360 statistic

Yep, this is my first. Bought it back in July.

Went to play COD4, get dirty disc error. Cleaned it and restarted. Boots up, go onto LIVE, loads map, screen goes all wonky/fuzzy/fractured. Thought... crap... the COD4 disc is screwed, LoL. Tried a couple more times and it crashed while or prior to loading the map, 'till finally I power it up and absolutely nothing is on screen. Just blank. I had already taken the 360 apart awhile back to upgrade the fan. (stock was too loud, plus the one I have has blue LEDs.) So I take it apart.. cause I felt like it. Sooo, did that put it back together and I get RRoD! lmao. I was like *insert swearing*! So now I got it in pieces again, and it's booting to the dash! stupid pos. But when I play a game (any game) it freezes. I thought maybe it's getting to hot so I had fans blowing directly on the coolers, no luck. Right on the back it says "made in China" so I don't know why I'm surprised.

Didn't even last a year. My 1.0 Xbox I got back in 2001 still works with no problems.

If I didn't hate the PS3 controller so much I would just get one of those. Microsoft really let us down when it comes to the 360's hardware.

Say it'd RROD and RMA it... worth a shot, they extended the warranty for RRODs.

I'd ask if you can step up to a elite too... they seem to be much more stable.

It's been taken apart, how am I going to RMA it? And it is an Elite..

Many will disagree but I think the bad COD4 actually damaged it on a hardware level. You would have had to see what was on screen when it screwed up the first time it screwed up. Looked like really bad fracturing from a vid card that's been OCed too far.

Ohh! I just remembered COD4 got an update when it happened too.

Meh..if you wanted to be sneaky and pass your losses onto a big corporation..............

Go to costco, buy new xbox, place old xbox in new xbox's box, return said box (a lot of boxes, I know). HI FIVE! In most cases all costco will do is send you to their "electronics specialist" aka a random goof they see walking by, if he ok's it you get your money back. Be careful though, you can only do this once or twice max, it gets listed on your costco membership card. (Assuming you have a costco membership)

If you dont, you could try your luck at a FutureShop or Wallmart.

Sucks for you though, especially seeing as its an elite, those things are expensive. If nothing works, there are people who fix damaged xbox's or buy them off you for parts. Search on craigslist.

Haha, I was actually considering this.

Wasn't going to bring it up cause I'll likely get flamed for my bad ethics. Ripping off WallyWorld would be wrong.

Haha you have no idea how much hardware I've done that with. And it's not really unethical since the old one and new one are being paid for.

At least you got some time out of it. My bro bought a 360 elite my buddy had sitting on his shelf for about month - he sent it to Microsoft and bought another one waiting for it to come back so he sold it to my brother for $450. My friend turned it on just once to make sure it worked maybe a week or two before he sold it. So when my bro brought it home and turned it on for the first time, he got a bottom right red light and an E74 error code. We turned it off and back on and it worked for less than 10 hours total playing time (not continuous) before the bottom right red light and E74 error came back permanently.
He just got the box for the RMA before the long weekend, sending it off on Monday.

Got to love Micro$oft...

Yeah, I got the E74 error a couple times too. I wish there was a Xbox 360 emulator or something for the PC. lol Maybe then I'd invest in a high end vid card.

Hope your brother gets it back sometime soon..

yea that would be cool cause i like playing computer games but then again i hate it cause all my friends have 360's and that's the only reason i have a 360 was to play with my friends....they should integrate 360 software into windows

man if the xbox 360 stock fans are too loud for you then you will keep getting RROD all of your life, this 360 need a lot of cooling bro, and if your putting air blowing for the behind so your stoping the air to come out in a good way, there is a way so you can off from RROD forever, you can buy a Ps3 or you can read the thread in my signature but its noisy and for you very very noisy, but you will see ice coming out from ur 360
