Acronis True Image is probably the best or at least the easiest way.

Yes, ghost will copy the hard drive and anything on it.

Read on wikipedia on ghost or HDD cloning, after you know exactly what it does and how it works everything should be clear

If you downloaded it from a torrent, then most probably not. If you have the original on a disc, then I'd imagine it is bootable. I prefer Norton Ghost, despite it being sort of difficult to use if you're a beginner.

I find the best way to store an image is on a spare hard disc/external hard drive, with all my other backed up files.

That way, if you ever have a hard drive failure, or you do something silly such as accidentally formatting your drive, you can replace the HDD and ghost the image right onto it in no time at all.

thats what i plan on doing, storing it on a network drive or external hdd. so basically i shud get ghost and i will be able to boot the image from my network drive and restore it?

Yep. It'll just be a case of selecting the destination hard drive (as in, the hard drive you want to ghost to), and then navigating to your network drive to open the image file of your hard drive.

Ghost can be a bit flakey, if you keep getting errors, make sure to change the option to continue to save image even if there are errors. Other than that Ghost is an amazing tool, awesome for this sort of thing.
