Overclocking AMD AM2 Athlon 64 X2 BE and Wintec DDR2 800MHz memory

Thread Starter
Hello,

I have an AMD AM2 Athlon 64 X2 Black Edition at 2.6GHz and Wintec AMPX 2Gb PC2-6400 DDR2 800 dual channel desktop memory modules at 1GB per module. I'm wanting to overclock this combination. I'm thinking I can, but I wanted some advice first, and, if possible, how is the best way to go about doing it.

I do have the MSI K9AG Neo2 Digital MB. I also have the MSI Dual CoreCenter installed which has the dynamic overclocking feature which can overclock to a range of 15%.One other thing, I am also using an Arctic Cooler Freezer 64 Pro CPU cooler, and my memory does have heatsinks installed on them.

Can somebody help me here?

Thanks,
Micah

Why is it running at only 2.6 ghz? The stock speed is at 3.2 ghz..

What is your multiplier set at?
What is your FSB?

My CPU is actually an AMD AM2 Athlon 64 X2 5000+ at 2.6GHz Black Edition. My FSB is set at 200 and my multiplier is set at AUTO or 13. I do know for a fact that the CPU is unlocked so I should be able to overclock it to at least 3.0 to 3.2 GHz.

Ah I was thinking it was a 6400+ sorry.

You could back the multiplier down a couple and then bump the FSB up slowly.

Well, the most I could overclock it to was about 2.9GHz which is still 300MHz faster than before.
Then I tried the MSI Dynamic Overclocking utility after I set the system to the default configuration and I was able to achieve slightly better results. So I am going to stick with using MSI's dynamic overclocking. All I have to do is when I decide to run a game I can just activate the Dynamic Overclocking and let it go. When I get done with my game I can just turn it off. I think this is the way to go.
MSI's Dynamic Overclocking Utility is a superb program.
I even have MSI's NX8600GT PCI-Express 256MB video card and it has the Dynamic Overclocking feature as well so this is a great bonus.

Thanks for your help.

Micah

.... you could also increase the CPU multi a notch or two, then check for stability. Keep an eye on your load temps as well. You will probably need to add some vcore as your OC increases.

Welcome to OCN MicahSJ!

It's much easier for us to help you if you fill in your system specs by clicking here.

Once we know what CPU cooling you have we can give you some suggestions. The X2 5000+ Black Edition (5000BE for short) averages about 3.2GHz for most people who have an aftermarket cooler. We can help you get there.

Here are some screens you asked for. I've only tweaked the CPU multiplier and CPU voltage thus far and nothing else.

This is a guide you should read first.
http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ing-guide.html

Download OCCT and Orthos for testing.
http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download
http://www.overclock.net/downloads/138142-orthos.html

You have a Brisbane core so 1.55 vcore or under is ok and 55c full load (while testing) or lower is good.
Disable Cool & Quiet in BIOS

Install AMD dual core optimizer
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...l?redir=COGA02

How big of a OC are you looking for?

Let me know if you have any questions after read the guide.
