High spec- running bad! ?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

This is my first post, hope you can help me out.

I've just built my latest system, check my spec out in profile. Having tons of problems with crysis, on all medium spec & my fps is between 7-25 fps!! (DX10 1680x1050)

I have all the latest drivers & hot fixes etc.

However, in device manager my processor driver is:
Version: 6.0.6000.16386 Date: 21/06/2006

Cant find one that will work with vista 64 ultimate bit

Also, AMD overdrive could not detect any AMD cpu in my system?!

Anyway, I dont know if thats the issue. . i've been on a few forums and they seem to say its my cpu thats holding it back?

if this is the case do you think o/c 'ing it will cure this.

Cheers people

Have you tried overclocking your video card?
download atitool..... and push it up. That will give you a good fps boost. I haven't kept up with new processors since I got my q6600 (kinda an insurance policy that i won't go buy something better) But I cant see why a quad would hold you back too much... But you are on overclock.net..... everyone will tell you to OC it.. lol. I would, try to make that baby hit at least 3.0

Edit:
and do not rely on any pre-packaged programs like AMD overdrive.

Use speedfan or coretemp (coretemp doesnt work for me, but it does for other people), cpu-z, ati-tool, and prime95 for your basic bench/oc program array.... then OC in bios. If you don't know how, just ask.
And you're cpu is there... otherwise it wouldn't turn on. Thats just exactly why you don't use those programs

Well, are you sure the PCIE slot is running a full 16x? Have you tried anything other than Crysis? 3dmark06? I highly doubt you CPU is holding you back. I would try some other games and/or benches to see. You should be getting better than that with all stock, so i would get that working properly before OCniog.

Yeh full on 16x, both the 6 pin and 8 pin are in the card plugged in.
My mobo has way too many options it seems, Im running a Asus Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe which has a few options. I can either un it all on auto overclock and choose increments of 3%, 5%, and so on and it does all the work for me including voltage it says. I cant work out how to increase the fsb myself, it wont let me choose that option.

Oh and 3D Mark I score between 10100-10300 depending what day it is lol.

I would check to see if you are running anything in the background. that is still a very low score for that card, regardless of CPU. I get 13K+ with my set-up. Also, I don't advise using auto overclock. You should set it all manually.

Nothing in the background. Running a new Hdd, on 64bit Ultimate with all updates fixes everything. Now including SP1. I dont get it pretty gutted its running like this afer building the machine.

I've ran hdd and mem tests - all ok.

Defragged, check updates again. . . everything ok. Is there any settings i nthe Bios that could be holding it back?

Could be. I honestly don't know what it is. Is the card new? there is a possibility that it is bad. I would assume it is getting enough power. You may want to try upping the PCIE mhz to 105mhz and see if that makes a difference.

edit: Have you been trying different drivers? You may want to use driver cleaner to make sure all the other drivers are gone, if you have.

Only used the cd that comes with the graphics card, uninstalled the driver from control panel then installed new.

Personaly I think it boils down to drivers. I am yet to play another game other than Crysis, might try COD if i can get hold of it.

Other people in forums seem to be having no end of trouble with Crysis.
