Program to max memory out?

Thread Starter
Hello,

My friend said he got SP1 on Vista 32bit and it saw he full 4GB. So now, im experimenting, just installed 32bit Vista Home Premium as dual boot to check this out.

So I need a program that will max my meory out and tell me how much of my memory its using (so I know its using the full 4GB).

So I was wondering if someone knows of a program like this?

Thanks
Tom

Well, orthos has a ram setting I think, but it will only stress it and not show what is being used. I would think any program that gets close to maxing out RAM would start page filing anyways. I will say that there is no way all the RAM is being used. I have 4gb with XP 32bit and, although it shows 4gbn in CPUZ, it is simply reading the sticks from the mobo slots and not actually showing how much is usable.

Try an orthos test and see what it shows in task manager.

Bu it doesn't show your 4GB in the system properties page does it?

With SP1 on Vista installed it starts showing the full 4GB, ill try Orthos, don't really use it much so I didn't even know it had a memory testing feature hehe

Download everest and use the OSD, kind of like windows sidebar, but it takes up 5mb or RAM and pretty much no CPU. Look at my "e6400 @ 3.6" link in my sig, you can see it on the right, great for video card overclocking, and just general system info.

If you want to test the memory for stability, run Memtest86+, stress testing it in the OS and it can damage or heavily corrupt critical files.

Honestly, I don't remember what is shows exactly. I can check, but it won't be until I get home in a few hours.

SP1 only fixes the issue with how much memory your system has as reported in bios. In all acuallity, it is still using the 4Gb max system memory. So take 4Gb and subtract your video card memory. By your specs, I would assume you are able to use approx. 3.5Gb of the 4Gb of ram you have installed.

With Windows Vista SP1, currently planned for the first quarter of 2008, Microsoft will force the operating system to show the full amount of system memory installed, and not only the memory that Vista has available. The Redmond company warned that the change will ultimately depend on the integration with the machine's BIOS and, as such, not all Vista users will experience it. But, it does not mean that Vista SP1 will resolve the 4 GB of RAM limitations of the 32-bit Vista operating system.
To verify, Check task manager under the performance tab and see how much memory it reports.

Do people still try and overclock using a HDD with actual important information on it?

Maybe it's just laziness, but that's terrible practice especially for experienced overclockers. That information can be corrupted in a very short time from any kind of system instability.

Buy a cheap external drive and use that, for benchmarks it's best to use windows XP anyway.

Everest has a nice memtest function also for stability testing.

I'm not overclocking it, me and a friend just wanted to know if 32bit allowed 4GB of RAM to be used without subtracting the video memory because my other friend saw 4GB under system properties.

Thanks anyway but ive finished with it now lmao.

All i have overclocked at the moment is my Q6600 @ 2.7GHz as im stuck on stock cooler for about 2 weeks now, I daren't go higher, my temps idle about 45 - 50c
