Attn P5E and Maximus owners, you could have a Rampage Formula!

This has been posted already in the Asus Maximus Thread, and was originated by The Stilt on XtremeSystems.

Asus P5E and Maximus Formula X38 motherboards can be flashed with the Rampage Formula X48 BIOS. Infact, the Rampage and Maximus BIOSes are interchangable on both ASUS X38 boards.

This process is now reversable, and you can flash between Maximus and Rampage BIOS versions. Once you flash to the Rampage BIOS, you can update with new Rampage BIOS revisions as you normally would.

Users at XS are reporting great results- new RAM subtiming settings, better stability, and lower voltages. BigKriss here at OCN has sucessfully flashed his board, and aparently is quite happy.

Personally I am ready to pull the trigger and be the proud owner of an X38 Maximus Rampage, but have decided to wait until I buy new 6xHDDs and setup a new RAID array (planned upgrade) as a fresh install of your OS is reccomended after flashing.

Well I felt like taking a huge chance tonight by flashing my P5E to the Rampage bios. It was actually a painless procedure that took about 5 min! The bios works so far without issues. I can tell you all that the chipset temps are not present, which means the sensors dont exist. But I have all the OCing features of the X48 Ramapge. I found it strange that CPU-Z and Everest both detect the board as the P5E, but the bios is detected correctly with the 0219 Rampage bios string:

I did have to disable some of the temp sensor features to keep warning messages from posting about the non-existent sensors making false readings. But the other temps like CPU and MB temps are still working correctly.
