Tape contacts on Q9450 turn it into QX9770

The original page is here (translated from Chinese) coolaler.com

If that RAISES the multiplier then we can expect to see some sweet OCs with these chips.
That does not raise the multi. It just makes the computer detect it as having a higher stock FSB, which you can do easily in the BIOS anyway.

But what about this pic? Notice the 9x multiplier

The regular multi for the Q9450 is 8x...

This is assuming that the picture is not forged, and no other trickery is involved of course.

cpuz shows a QX9650 which has an unlocked multi

So is there a difference between a Q6600 @3.8 and Q9450 @3.8?

Ok after closer inspection it appears the first person who discovered this http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread...79#post5040179 must have read it wrong. Seeing as nowhere does the tape article mention a Q9450 (can't believe I'm just noticing this)

Sorry for getting everyones hopes up this doesn't appear to apply to the Q9450, so that leaves me wondering why did "danger_den" post it in the first place

I get 13k with my E6300 and GTS 512. What's up with that?

Oh, he's using Vista. Nevermind.

You are comparing 65nm to 45nm. That's like comparing 90nm to 65nm. The performance gain is very noticeable. With smaller transistors, more transistors can be used, which then allows for greater processing speed at the same clocks with less power and less heat.

From the reviews i saw, clock to clock difference is about 5-10% depending on the application used. Considering that Q6600 at 3.8 is most likely an overkill, there's no point in upgrading. Even then i'd get Q6600 G0 anyway, cause they are proven OCers and will be cheaper, especially after soon-to-be price cuts.
